2A – Bug List

2A – Bug List
ENT3003
Chris Ward

1.     There are no locally owned and operated coffee shops with in 5 miles of my house.
Why:  This is likely due to local entrepreneurs failing to recognize the demand or maybe the demand is low, and I don’t realize it.
2.     The traffic light turning onto my road is back up too often.
Why:  There has been several new developments in the area which has increased traffic turning on to that road.
3.     There are no options for food delivery in my area.
Why:  There must be too little demand and area delivery restaurants don’t find it profitable to expand into my area.
4.     Too many people use their cell phones while driving.
Why:  They think whatever they are looking at on their phone is more important than paying attention to the road.  I can rant on this topic further but you get the point..
5.     There is not direct access to the new turnpike entrance from my house.
Why: This is my fault, I bought a house in a remote area
6.     Printer ink for my HP printer is too expensive and doesn’t last long enough.
Why: Profit, that’s why
7.     Massey Lawn service charges to much for just and OK job with my lawn.
Why: The cost for the service initially was reasonable but maybe over time the service technician has become complacent and my lawn is suffering.
8.     Rent in Clermont, Florida is too high.
Why:  The area is expanding faster than the housing market can accommodate.
9.     The price of theme park admission is getting out of control.
Why:  With the opening of new attractions they need a way to control crowds, increasing the price will keep the demand down slightly.  Profit is also a major factor I’m sure.
10.  There are not enough locally owned, non-franchise, restaurants in Clermont, Fl.
Why: Similar to the local coffee shop, maybe there isn’t enough of a demand for good food.
11.  The Farmers Market is Clermont, Florida is much smaller than neighboring Winter Garden.
Why:  The crowd at this Farmers Market is smaller, therefore less venders are attracted to attend.
12.  There are no butcher shops within 10 miles of my home.
Why: Again, maybe just because I want it, doesn’t mean everybody else does…
13.  The Gyms in my area are too crowded during the time of day that I can be there.
Why:  There are too few Gyms in the area, also they are currently full of “resolutioners”, whom will not be there much longer.
14.  Job recruiters from large companies are too slow to respond to applicants.
Why:  There are either too many applicants for the positions or too few recruiters within the company.
15.  There is no IMAX theater in Clermont, Florida.
Why:  There may not be enough developed area to accommodate this size theater.  Or again, little demand.
16.  The downtown area Clermont is not as developed as Winter Garden.
Why: There is not as much money in the area as compared to Winter Garden.
17.  Boat ramp access to Lake Minneola is limited.
Why: This may be done on purpose to limit the amount of boat traffic on the lake.
18.  The parking area for the trails by my house is locked at 8pm, too early.
Why:  This is probably done to limit the amount of trail use after dark.
19.  Too many people in my neighborhood use the street for parking, which makes it difficult to navigate the streets.
Why: The simple answer may be that their lot was full, but this is rarely the case. Maybe they are too lazy to pull in and have to back out.
20.  Cell phone screens break too easily.
Why: May be the technology for an unbreakable or more durable screen doesn’t exist or the cost per unit would be too high.

Reflection:
Once I started focusing on the small things that bug me this exercise became quite simple.  Figuring out why they existed was a little more difficult.  I realized that things that often bugged me, may not bug anyone else or not enough people to correct the issue.  Since completing my list, I find myself added to it in my head every day.

Comments

  1. Good job on the assignment! I can relate to many of the things that bug you. I live in a small town, and also wish that we had some type of food delivery service. I feel like there would be a demand for this type of service if people knew it was an option. People are so busy these days, so I feel that any type of service to make their lives a little easier would be successful.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2 ENT3003 Chris Ward Mindset by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? ·       This book is about the two mindsets people tend to have.   The fixed mindset, where you believe things are the way they are and unable to develop or change with work.   The other is the growth mindset, a much more desirable trait, which is when you believe that talents and intelligence can be developed with the right amount of work. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? ·       The theme of this book is all about development and taking failure as a lesson rather than defeat.   Having owned and failed in my own business, I understand the mindset it takes to learn from that experience. This book helped show me that, for the most part, I have a growth mindset and why that is so import...

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

18A – Create a Customer Avatar ENT3003 Chris Ward A coffee shop patron…..could be anybody or everybody, but who are the repeat customers or regular customers.   I believe they would be the working class or college students.   The traits of this person are difficult to define.   The only thing they all have in common is coffee. To provide more detail I would have to single out a particular person, but I believe the best part of my business is that it is truly for anyone. I am the customer, everything about me could be true of any of my customers.   You are my customer; you have everything or nothing in common with my other customers.   We all want coffee though!
