3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

Shortly
after I earned my Master Electrician license, I thought it would be a good idea
to go into business for myself. In 2005 I
started my own business and named it Electrical Innovations Inc. Things were great for about five years, I was
working at my own pace and was able to really focus on customer needs and
satisfaction. Things changed when I
started taking on commercial clients. Shortly
after that I started to employ other electricians and subcontractors and that’s
when it all went downhill. I made many
mistakes in the later years of my business but the biggest one was not letting
my employees run projects and thinking I had to do everything. This led to me not running the business as it
should have been and causing me and my family a great amount of stress. After being in business for almost ten years my
wife and I decided it was no longer sustainable and decided to shut it down and
refer all my clients to another electrician and good friend. Shortly after, we moved to Florida to escape
the cold dark Maine winters and now, I’m enrolled in Business school to learn
how to avoid those mistakes in future endeavors.

years

Chris,
ReplyDeleteYour entrepreneur story is a great one. It takes tremendous amounts of guts to come up with an idea and follow through with it. It can be difficult to put trust in the employees sometimes, but I believe it is the reason that makes or breaks companies. I am sorry the business ended up following through, but hopefully you have many more ideas that can write new chapters to your entrepreneur story.
