5A – Identifying Local Opportunities

                  1.    Sponsors Make Dog Park Special

·       Local businesses sponsor a dog park that provides a safe area where dogs can exercise off leash.  Sponsors advertise around the perimeter with signs on the fence.

·       There may be an opportunity here for an entrepreneur to open a dog related business.

·       Dog owners may find the need to have a groomer or pet supply store nearby.
2.    City Plans Options for Parking Bikes

·       The city of Orlando is installing bike racks for use with the Lime Bikes app or any other bike.  This should help prevent bikes from being left wherever.

·       The problem is that bikes used for the bike sharing app Lime Bikes are being left in undesirable areas of the city.

·       There is an opportunity for other bike sharing companies to take advantage of the newly installed bike racks.

3.    Health – In 2019, health care expansion is the name of the game.

·       Local health care facilities like Orlando Health and Advent Health are expanding throughout the local communities this year.

·       With the populations of local communities expanding the need for more health care facilities exist.
·       Health care companies like Orlando Health and Advent Health are taking advantage of this need by expanding into these areas.

4.    Esports, Startups plan for the major push in 2019

·       Orlando is becoming a center for Esports and local companies are investing in the growth of small Esport startups.

·       Small companies need some financial backing to compete with their larger counterparts like EA.

·       Investors could get in on the ground floor of what could become a very profitable business.

5.    Malls are fading, making room for new entertainment

·       With the malls closing down there is now available real estate for companies that provide demanded services like sports bars or niche grocery stores.

·       There is an abundance of empty real estate due to malls closing.

·       Entrepreneurs may see these areas as prime locations for there businesses.

  1. Hi Chris,

As a dog owner, it is super convenient that my vet and dog park are both close to each other and within a good range of my home. If a dog groomer or pet store opened near them I would definitely love that as it would be convenient to bring my dog with me. There are several other great opportunities in your blog that need attention. I’d say that figuring out a solution for the bike situation and not letting them be left anywhere around the city is a good way for someone to look beyond their local community into a solution that will work for every city.

  2. In the last decade, as shopping moves more toward internet transactions, physical stores are less necessary for displaying merchandise. As you noted, retail shopping mall space is increasingly difficult to justify and that space is being rented out to other types of businesses. The variety of industry that require people to "go there" include, like you said, sports bars and niche grocery stores. I would add healthcare services, office space, theatres, restaurants.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2 ENT3003 Chris Ward Mindset by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? ·       This book is about the two mindsets people tend to have.   The fixed mindset, where you believe things are the way they are and unable to develop or change with work.   The other is the growth mindset, a much more desirable trait, which is when you believe that talents and intelligence can be developed with the right amount of work. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? ·       The theme of this book is all about development and taking failure as a lesson rather than defeat.   Having owned and failed in my own business, I understand the mindset it takes to learn from that experience. This book helped show me that, for the most part, I have a growth mindset and why that is so import...

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

18A – Create a Customer Avatar ENT3003 Chris Ward A coffee shop patron…..could be anybody or everybody, but who are the repeat customers or regular customers.   I believe they would be the working class or college students.   The traits of this person are difficult to define.   The only thing they all have in common is coffee. To provide more detail I would have to single out a particular person, but I believe the best part of my business is that it is truly for anyone. I am the customer, everything about me could be true of any of my customers.   You are my customer; you have everything or nothing in common with my other customers.   We all want coffee though!
