8A – Solving The Problem

Solving the problem of no local coffee shop is fairly easy for someone with barista experience.  Some problems with opening a new shop in the area will be finding the right location for a decent cost and whether to build or lease a space.  The owner may also have issues with supplies and equipment.

No coffee shop currently exists in the area so there is no competition yet, but if the shop is successful in the area it will likely draw in competitors.  There is a lot more to opening a coffee shop than the few issues I mentioned but if it is done properly the need for a local coffee shop will be solved.

  1. Hi Chris,

I agree there is a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to running a coffee shop, the main one being a market base. Since there is no current coffee shop in the area, I believe this will not be an issue for the opportunity. Somethings to consider, however, would be the specific location within the town since many of your interviewees claimed that the coffee, although something they would enjoy, is not a vital purchase in their daily lives. Consider a location that not only works for an easy pickup for locals but those traveling through town.

  2. Chris,
A local coffee shop is very much essential if there is not one. I do think it would be quite expensive and a little more trouble than you seem to make out of it. Once the local shop does get popular it will gain competitors like you said, driving the profits down a lot more. If the coffee shop can find a way to be somehow unique it will help it flourish.

Dweck, Ph.D. 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? ·       This book is about the two mindsets people tend to have.   The fixed mindset, where you believe things are the way they are and unable to develop or change with work.   The other is the growth mindset, a much more desirable trait, which is when you believe that talents and intelligence can be developed with the right amount of work. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? ·       The theme of this book is all about development and taking failure as a lesson rather than defeat.   Having owned and failed in my own business, I understand the mindset it takes to learn from that experience. This book helped show me that, for the most part, I have a growth mindset and why that is so import...

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

18A – Create a Customer Avatar ENT3003 Chris Ward A coffee shop patron…..could be anybody or everybody, but who are the repeat customers or regular customers.   I believe they would be the working class or college students.   The traits of this person are difficult to define.   The only thing they all have in common is coffee. To provide more detail I would have to single out a particular person, but I believe the best part of my business is that it is truly for anyone. I am the customer, everything about me could be true of any of my customers.   You are my customer; you have everything or nothing in common with my other customers.   We all want coffee though!
