14A – Halfway Reflection

1)
Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you
have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
·
Interviewing people
is the skill I have developed most.
Prior to taking this course I have never conducted a formal
interview. Moving forward this a skill I
will need to work on.
2)
Tenaciousness
is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving
up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a
tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences
most contributed to this?
·
During the elevator
pitch assignment, I thought about giving up several times. There is something about talking to the
camera that makes me nervous and made completing the assignment difficult. After watching some of the others pitches and
reading the comments on mine, I feel like the next one will be a bit easier
though. The comments on my blogs posts
really have helped me develop over the past couple of months.
3)
Three tips. What are three tips you would offer
next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity
and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset'?
·
Try not to be too
shy, this will help with conducting interviews and your elevator pitches.
·
Start your assignments early in the
week. Sometimes finding and conducting
good interviews can take a few days. You
don’t want to be looking for interviews on the day the assignment is due.
·
Try to stick with the same people in
the group when commenting on blog posts.
This will help you understand their ideas from the beginning.
Great write up, Chris!
ReplyDeleteI also believe that my interviewing skills have really improved with this course, it helps me both as a business person as well as an interviewee, as I know now what makes a good answer in an interview, so when the time comes for a job interview, I can make a better, lasting impact with my more meaningful answers.
You have some great tips as well! I think that even just getting a baseline done on an assignment, like a rough draft, early in the week makes it so much easier as it can "digest" and when become a better and more mature submission.
Christopher,
ReplyDeleteFrom this class I have gotten a lot better at doing interviews as well. It has gotten me out of my comfort zone and made me go out and ask for people’s opinions involving my service I am trying out. It is important to possess tenacity in everything we do not just this class, when we feel like giving up, we must push through it.
