9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Chris Ward

·       Who: There are people that fall outside of the boundary of the need for a local coffee shop.  These people would be those that don’t drink coffee, people that enjoy making it at home more, and people that don’t want to spend the money.
1.     Interviews with several neighbors showed that there are some people that don’t drink coffee.
2.     Interviews with people walking around the park showed that some prefer homemade, like my wife, or don’t want to “waste the money” as well as do not drink coffee.

·       What: Some people may prefer a McDonald’s style breakfast with sandwiches and other cooked food.

·       Why: Most people outside the boundary either don’t drink coffee or don’t want to spend their money on coffee.

  1. You could build on this a little bit too. You could see what type of people are more likely to drink coffee. For example maybe you notice college students or professionals are more likely to drink coffee than stay at home moms or retirees. This could give you a better basis for who you are or aren't marketing to. I think you did a really good job with your chart putting everything together so you can clearly see who falls inside or outside of your target audience.

  2. I think you have a great setup here, and a great market. People will always drink coffee, so the need for a local coffee shop will always be there. You did a good job defining side of the boundary, and I see myself in between. I hardly ever go out for coffee since I like my homemade coffee so much better. Thus, I do not feel the need to spend $5 very often. Nevertheless, I find myself getting the occasional cup of coffee. Great idea and great job!

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2 ENT3003 Chris Ward Mindset by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? ·       This book is about the two mindsets people tend to have.   The fixed mindset, where you believe things are the way they are and unable to develop or change with work.   The other is the growth mindset, a much more desirable trait, which is when you believe that talents and intelligence can be developed with the right amount of work. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? ·       The theme of this book is all about development and taking failure as a lesson rather than defeat.   Having owned and failed in my own business, I understand the mindset it takes to learn from that experience. This book helped show me that, for the most part, I have a growth mindset and why that is so import...

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

18A – Create a Customer Avatar ENT3003 Chris Ward A coffee shop patron…..could be anybody or everybody, but who are the repeat customers or regular customers.   I believe they would be the working class or college students.   The traits of this person are difficult to define.   The only thing they all have in common is coffee. To provide more detail I would have to single out a particular person, but I believe the best part of my business is that it is truly for anyone. I am the customer, everything about me could be true of any of my customers.   You are my customer; you have everything or nothing in common with my other customers.   We all want coffee though!
