18A – Create a Customer Avatar

A coffee shop patron…..could be anybody or everybody, but who are the repeat customers or regular customers.  I believe they would be the working class or college students.  The traits of this person are difficult to define.  The only thing they all have in common is coffee. To provide more detail I would have to single out a particular person, but I believe the best part of my business is that it is truly for anyone.
I am the customer, everything about me could be true of any of my customers.  You are my customer; you have everything or nothing in common with my other customers.  We all want coffee though!

    It seems that your products typical consumer is just those who have a love for coffee which is pretty widely consumed. Again most coffee shops have a customer who is loyal and will return, for instance you can tell who is obsessed with starbucks because of the gold card status. Good Job!

  2. Hey Chris,

    I totally agree. Coffee "customers" are really hard to pin-point without extensive customer research, so I get that your customer could potentially be anyone. I would definitely leave out lower-income students and people, as they likely do not have the disposable income to buy coffee on a daily basis.

  3. Nice job Chris,

    I think one of the nice things about coffee is the sheer number of people who consume it (for instance me, my 50-something year old mother and father, both sets of my grandparents, etc.). I think the really the only thing that could create a fragmentation in the sector is the marketing, location and they atmosphere you create with the coffee shop. Most older folks are not going to want, or even know, they newer types of coffee at a coffee shop, they just want a plain coffee, maybe with cream and sugar, while you and me and most college students drink anything from frappacinos to pumpkin spice lattes to iced coffee.

    In addition the location and atmosphere is another thing to consider. Places like most Starbucks in Barnes and Nobles stores have a good mix of age groups, but if it's a more "hip" (my god I think I'm 60), near places that teens and 20-somethings frequent, like a college, chances are there will be few older folks and more younger people in it.
